NEW YORK, NY (March 20, 2014) – The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) today released its complete 17th annual multi-specialty statistical data indicating a 12% overall increase in cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2013.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s cosmetic surgery statistics are the most comprehensive collection of data available on the number of cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed in the United States. ASAPS membership in the U.S. is restricted to American Board of Plastic Surgery certified physicians, but our statistics represent data from multiple specialties. Currently, more than 21,000 surveys are distributed to board-certified physicians in these specialties, and survey results are used to project national totals.
There were over 11 million surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2013.
Nonsurgical procedures increased by 13% in 2013, with Botox and injectable fillers in the number one spot.
Women had more than 10.3 million cosmetic procedures; the top five were:

4. breast lift
5. blepharoplasty
Men had more than 1 million cosmetic procedures; the top five were:
- liposuction
- blepharoplasty
- rhinoplasty (nose surgery)
- male breast reduction
- otoplasty (ear surgery)
